Have a Ball
It’s time to roll up your sleeves and get digging through the countless items in your nearest op shop to find the perfect outfit to tear up the dance floor for the Harrogate Hall Op Shop Ball.

The Hall will be host to a night of eclectic outfits and music for all ages and from various eras.

The Op Shop ball is a social event as well as a fundraiser.

The original Harrogate Hall was built in 1861 entirely from local stone – the first for the local district.

A larger community hall was built alongside the original and was opened to the public in 1962, and to this day it is still owned and operated by the community.

“It is one of the last remaining community owned halls so we all come together and pitch in for things like bills which is why we fundraise,” committee member Vickie Kemp said.

The complete proceeds from the night will go towards keeping the hall in operation.

Vickie and the committee have been wanting to do the op shop theme for a while.

“We’ve had this idea on the back burner for a few years as we thought it might be fun because people can dress up from any era and get into the spirit of things.”

The night will feature entertainment from DJ Trent Slater who has been spinning discs for the past 21 years.

“I’m looking forward to seeing what people come up with on the night,” Trent said.

He has a wide variety of music which will please both young and old.

“I’ll be playing party songs right from the 70s until today which will accommodate kids, parents and older guests.

“I do this week in and week out with weddings and corporate events and I enjoy mixing it up between eras,” Trent said.

Both Trent and Vickie are excited for the community to come out together on the night.

“The community is very important especially out here where it is a little bit isolated being further away from everything – the community comes together when they need to,” Vickie said.

People attending will also be treated to a fire outside which is a big drawcard later into the night.

The Op Shop Ball will be held at Harrogate Hall on June 30 from 7pm.
It is a kid friendly event.

Tea, coffee and soft drinks are available but you are encouraged to bring a plate of food to share.

Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for children.
